It is pleasing to note that the UK playing community and tournament programme is growing year by year, and that many more of our number have been participating with some considerable success in the European tournament programme. We have also seen the first evidence of participation by our members in MCR events, and we are starting to consider the possibility of holding a pilot event for that popular rule set too in due course.
The UK Riichi Open continues to strengthen participation year on year and we hope to see that trend continue this year when the event is held once again in Godalming, at the excellent facilities of the Broadwater Pavilion over the weekend 4th/5th August 2018.
Full details are available on the dedicated tournament website where players can enrol for the event.
However, subject to final confirmation by EMA, there will be two additional MERS ranked riichi events in England this year:
- The Great Scholars Tournament – played over 5 rounds to be held Saturday, March 17th in Oxford.
- North London Open – a two day event over 8 rounds on November 3rd/4th in Cheshunt.
We hope to renew the friendship of many existing players, and to welcome some newcomers to the tournament scene too. The first opportunity for that will be at the Oxford event.
You will shortly be able to find a link to all these events via the European Mahjong Website The Great Scholars tournament website is already accepting entries; click here for full details.
