The World Riichi Championship takes place this year from 1st to 6th July in Tokyo. The UK has been allocated only three places this year.
The UKMA has considered the merits of the players we originally selected for the recent European Championship in Valencia and added those whose most recent performances have been particularly strong. The criteria used in our considerations are as before:
- Player’s competition experience
- Their current and previous rankings
- Support for UK championships and other events
- Representing the UK in overseas-based events
- Participation in previous European (and World) championships
- Notable achievements in the above
With only three places available, it was particularly difficult not to invite many worthy and excellent players. However, I am very pleased to advise that we have selected the following three players who have performed consistently well over the last few years, and they have accepted their nominations:
- Chris Endicott
- Martin Lester
- John Duckworth
We wish them the very best of luck and look forward to some fine results.
