This year’s AGM was held on Saturday, 2nd July near Guildford. Present were the Committee, Richard Langtry from the Guildford Bridge Club and Devina Stek from the Twickenham group.
John Duckworth has agreed to join the Committee in charge of Finance, and as a result Ian Fraser has become President. As a reminder to the other Committee members, Peter Langford is Chairman, Gemma Sakamoto is our Secretary and also in charge of our successful liaison with the European Association, and Nick Dyer (Brains) is responsible for the excellent technology systems.
Financially we are looking very healthy. We finished the 2021 Calendar year with assets of a little over £8000 (following a small loss in 2021 due to lack of activity during COVID), giving us scope to promote the game well into the future.
We agreed that we would like to see at least 3 “tournaments” (MERS rated) held in the UK in the coming 12 months and are contacting known groups to see whether they would be willing to host a tournament.
As our major aims are to encourage the playing of mahjong in the UK and to bring together those interested in playing, it would be great to receive updates from all of you out there who are playing the game no matter how small your group of players is.
The 2023 AGM will be held in the first Quarter of 2023.
