This Championship takes place in Valencia from 5-8th December 2024. Because of the UK Riichi community’s successes over recent years and the growing popularity of Riichi in the UK, we have been allocated 10 places in this major tournament.
The UKMA has responsibility for nominating the UK’s representatives. We have sought interest from those UK players on the European Mahjong Association’s ranking list, and have now met as a committee to consider the merits of those who have expressed interest and made our selections.
The factors that we used in our deliberations are:-
- players’ competition experience
- their current and previous rankings
- support for UK championships and other events
- representing the UK in overseas-based events
- participation in previous European championships
- notable achievements in all the above
It was not an easy decision having to leave out many deserving and excellent players, but we have put forward the following players to represent the UK in Valencia:-
- Arisa Turner
- Benjamin Savoy
- Gemma Sakamoto
- Ian Fraser
- Jay Li
- John Duckworth
- Mark Wu
- Martin Lester
- Michael Short
- Ronan White
I’m sure that everyone will wish them good luck to go with their undoubtedly superb play!
