UK Ranking System

With immediate effect and applicable in the first instance for 2027 ERMC, a separate system of results analysis (MUKRS) will be introduced. As currently, only results from MERS-rated competitions will be considered. A key difference from the existing EMA system is to disregard its event weighting system, but to give greater recognition to achievement in longer events, based on the number of days of play involved.

In the MUKRS, there will be no decaying of the value of results more than 12 months old, and only results falling within the period set out below will be counted.

A comprehensive explanation of the system can be viewed here.

Up-to-date standings relating to both ERMC and WRC can be viewed under the Ranking menu:

2. Period of results considered.

Only results in the period between the previous and current Selection Dates, routinely a thirty-six-month period for the relevant major competition (ERMC or WRMC), will be considered, each carrying its full EMA ranking system value of 0-1000. The purpose being that no result be counted for two separate iterations of the same major tournament. Unlike the EMA system, results obtained in either of these major events will be excluded, regardless of whether they fall within the period designated for the other major event.

The EMA’s own system will continue to be published along existing lines on its website.

3. Participation Criteria for Consideration

Players will be eligible for selection if they have participated as a UK representative in a minimum of sixteen days of MERS tournament play in the three years preceding the Selection Date. A minimum of four such MERS tournament days must have been outside the UK and a minimum of four days within the UK. There will be two separate (ERMC and WRC) ranking lists running at any one time under the MUKRS.

4. Basis of Selection

The primary factor for selection will be placement in the relevant MUKRS list at the Selection Date of those who meet the specified criteria above. To cater for exceptional cases of merit that may not be fully reflected by the MUKRS algorithm, a maximum of 20% of total places available to UK players will be made by UK committee decision.

The Selection Date will be nominated by the UKMA Executive immediately after confirmation of the UK allocation of places is known, and selections will be confirmed within one month of that date.

Following a review of the recommendations of a sub-committee appointed by the UKMA Executive Committee, the following developments, clarifications, and modifications to existing policy on eligibility for selection of players for limited-access events have been approved.
